In order to develop the tourist infrastructure of MMNP, the park administration started in 2007 a mountain hut in Lucaciasa region, between the Vaser Valley Basin and Ţâşla River Basin. Huts purpose is to assure shelter for tourist who will pass from one basin to other and would like to stay for a period on the ridge; the landscape in the area is a spectacular one. Once with he snow melting the transport of materials was restarted and the construction continued.
Thus, in 24 July, in the presence of ONU ambassador in Romania Jan Sorensen and national, county level and local authorities it took place the inauguration ceremony of Lucaciasa mountain hut. All the participants had part of a real adventure because the group was unaware on the mountain by strong rains about 50-60 litters per square meters and the descent from Vaser Valley has been made when the freshet started to Viseu.
The event organized by MMNP reunite together 35 guests from NFA – ROMSILVA, Baia Mare Forest Directorate, Environmental Guard, Somes - Tisa Water Management System, Viseu de Sus Municipality, Rodna Mountains Nature Park, NGO involved in tourism and environment activities, local forest related business representatives, the architect, the executants of the hut and mountain people.
Lucaciasa mountain hut is entirely built in fir wood according to Maramures tradition and it is situated at the altitude of 1.635 m, between the picks Military Toroioaga and Piciorul Caprei. It is situate close to Sondorilor Spring, used at watering the sheep in sheepfold.
The hut has at the ground floor space where the tourists on their way to, or from Prislop-Catarama-Gâliu-Capra -Toroioaga Baia Borşa or Vaser Valley can rest and shelter in meteorological inappropriate conditions and at the first floor there is sleeping space.
The participants at the event had the great occasion of a hike, which at the final was a hard one, full of emotions, in a moment when the nature started to unchain.
If in the morning, Viseu de Sus looked like a boiling steam pot, till the destination the group hikes on a rich rain. The hike from Gura Baii till Lucaciasa mountain hut took place on a dense rain assorted with iced wind. Ribbons cut took also place on the same weather, also descend to Macarlau train station, where the group was taken by Mocanita and transported till Faina. The way back to Viseu de Sus was almost an adventure. Flash of lightening and thunder peal have amplified the show of unchain nature, putting into another light the grandeur of nature. Torrential rains with a volume higher than 50-60 litters per square meters made that in two hours the water debit of Vaser to increase twice and the springs to become real torrents which brought wood and rock and obstruct the railway a few times.
The group of participant succeeded finally to reach Viseu late in the night. Thanks to the railway maintenance stuff and to the precaution of mechanic and brakesman the trip finalized well at 22.30 in the night. The crazy uproar water of Vaser with violent watercourse and caring downstream stump of trees, the succession of whirling waterfalls, the wilderness of tributaries as Lostun, Bardău, Novicior, Novăţ, Valea Peştilor, created emotions to participants which took part at a real adventure which will make them never forget that they participated at Lucaciasa mountain hut inauguration
